Chad's Update - November 2008

Dear All,
This is my first report of the work in Italy. I’ve been here for a little over a month. So far it has been really good.

Kensey and I have been taking language courses for the past month. Kensey had some Italian classes in college and was placed in the intermediate class. I, however, have had no previous training, so was placed in the beginner’s class. After a month we both took a long test to determine if we should move up to a higher class or stay where we are…we were both moved up another class. However, it is rather difficult to learn a new language and the headaches seem to come often. But it’s worth it as long as the language allows me to communicate Christ to those who don’t have a relationship with Him.

Other than language courses, I have also started teaching English using the Bible at the Bible School here in Scandicci. I have 5 Bible studies per week. I meet with two students on Monday and three students on Tuesday. Their grasp of English varies from absolutely no previous training to very advanced. I am able to study in a deep manner with those who have advanced English. The ones that are not so advanced we are studying key words that might come up at a later point in our study.

I also have helped at church and with church events. Last month we had a Men’s Convention. We had 40 elders, preachers, and deacons from all over Italy come to the Bible School for something of the equivalent of the Lectureships held at many of the Christian Universities in the states. It went rather well and I was able to meet many of the men who are leaders of churches of Christ.

At the beginning of December, I will be moving to Catania, Sicily, Italy, as planned, for the remainder of my two years here in Italy. The students I have now will study with David Woodroof, the Director of the Bible School here in Scandicci, Italy. In Catania, I will move in with the Edward’s family (missionaries who have already been there for a year and a half). I will help with the work they have started and continue it when they leave in April or May 2009. In March there is the possibility of another missionary moving to Catania to help as well. Please pray that this is the case. I will be able to provide a detailed update of the work in Catania once I have moved there in December.

I guess that’s all for now, if you have any questions you can contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

I hope all is well with you.
Your fellow servant,
Chad Fetters
