  David & Debbie Woodroof
The College Church of Christ is pleased to announce that David and Debbie Woodroof have been sent to Florence to direct the Avanti Italia program as of January 2008. David grew up in various parts of the United States because his father, Jim, is a preacher and author. He spent some time in New Zealand as a missionary child. He completed his education at Harding where he received a B.A. in Bible with a minor in psychology. During those university days he met his future wife, Debbie Heffington from Hayward , California. They were married in 1980 and David stayed on to work at Harding University for the next 25 years.
Debbie' parents were both non-hearing and she is greatly gifted as a nationally certified interpreter for the deaf. They have three children: Elizabeth, Emily and Erica who are all college age or beyond. After raising the girls , Debbie began teaching American Sign Language at Harding University where she worked for 13 years.
“Our life was on the track of most middle-aged Americans,” says David of their decision, “but I started to long to do something that would make more of an eternal difference.  Two years after I resigned at Harding University , the call came to go to Italy.  Both Debbie and I believed it would have been disobedient to God to say no to this call, so we packed up our things at the age of 50, left our family, friends and home and moved to Italy.   Sometimes you wonder what He's thinking."
